Houseplants – A Winter Highlight

Article written by: Ella Lindberg - Annual and Perennial Department Manager

Even during long Colorado winters, inside our garden center is a lush, green paradise! Around the beginning of February, we usually receive our largest houseplant shipment of the year. If you’re looking to bring life into your home and scratch that gardening itch while it’s still too cold to dig outside, February is the perfect time to come shop for fresh foliage.

Exciting Varieties Include:

  • Dieffenbachia Maculata Cool Beauty – Cool Beauty is one of the most striking new Dieffenbachia varieties we’ve seen! Its leaves feature creamy-white centers with crisp, bright white edges, giving a fresh twist to this classic, easy-to-grow houseplant.
  • Monstera Cobra – Bring lush, tropical beauty into your home with this stunning variegated Monstera! Its leaves feature playful streaks of creamy white, making it a rare and eye-catching addition to any collection. Unlike other Monstera varieties, its foliage stays solid without fenestrations.
  • Philodendron Xanadu – This vibrant tropical plant adds a refreshing splash of green wherever it’s displayed. Its glossy, bold shaped, multi-lobed leaves range in color from medium to deep olive green. New growth emerges in a bright lime shade, gradually deepening as it matures.
  • Philodendron Ring of Fire – For variegated philodendron lovers, the Philodendron Ring of Fire (Philodendron bipinnatifidum x selloum) is a top choice. This rare yet easy-care plant is prized for its striking foliage, which can showcase a mix of green, orange, red, yellow, pink, and white as it matures.
  • Dracaena fragrans White Aspen – A stunning, low-maintenance plant that grows slowly, featuring strappy variegated leaves that fan out from a central stem. Over time, the stem develops into a trunk, and like its relative, Dracaena fragrans ‘Massangeana,’ it can eventually reach up to 6 feet tall!
  • Epipremnum Pearls N Jade – While many epipremnum varieties look quite similar, Pearls N Jade stands out with its unique leaf shape, texture, and color. The leaves are smaller than those of the standard Golden Pothos and have a slightly ruffled texture, resembling the highly variegated N’Joy cultivar.
