Caring for Your Live Christmas Tree
Article written by: Eagle Crest Staff

A live Christmas tree is an evergreen – usually a Colorado Spruce – that is in a container with its roots intact. It can be used as a Christmas tree and then planted in your landscape.
We recommend keeping live trees indoors no more than 2 to 3 days. The warmer the temp indoors, the less time it should spend inside. If the tree is left indoors longer, it must be kept inside until there is no longer a danger of frost (June).
Trees left outside in containers over the winter can be an attractive addition to your entryway. Leave at least 30″ between the tree and the wall to prevent them from warming up and the foliage drying out.
Wilt-Pruf, available at Eagle Crest Nursery, can be sprayed on the trees to help with needle retention and prevent excessive drying out.
Water the root ball every 4-6 weeks to prevent desiccation during the winter months. Water when the temperature is above 40° F, preferably in the middle of the day, so water is absorbed.
