Did any of you read the article in the Aspen Daily News a few weeks ago about the return of the Red McClure potato to the Roaring Fork and Crystal river vallies? It’s a fascinating story which illustrates the need for us to try and save many heirloom varieties of vegetables from going the way of the dinosaurs. Let’s start by saving a variety that was so important to our potato growing heritage. Thanks to Marie Louise Ryan of the Slow Food group for helping us acquire these for you all to grow. We now have Red McClure seed potatoes in our store for you to purchase, plant and grow. We also have many other organic and heriloom vegetable seeds in stock now.

Hi Eagle Crest customers,
This blog is a new feature of our updated website. In this space we will post timely information such as what to do right now in the garden or what’s new in the nursery etc. It’s also your space to let us know how we are doing and ask gardening questions. We hope to see this become an area where we can all share information and tips for gardening in our challenging mountain environment. For example, it’s April 10th and the forcast is for sun, snow, rain & wind today. How does that affect my gardening? The good new is that it just affects a willingness to be out in the crazy weather doing it - there’s lot’s to do in the garden now. Spring clean up etc.- I planted my first tree of the season yesterday while a gentle snow was falling- what great moisture!
Hope to hear from you soon.
Think Spring
